Union county, passed through this morning to Walla Walla on a visit. Mr. Wade was formerly state senator from Union and Wallowa counties. D. C. Brownell. the pioneer irrigator of Umatilla. Is in the city today on business connected with his irrigation projects. He has just completed a ditch and headgates for the purpose of Irrigating 1200 acres of sandy land near the town of Umatilla. State Senator N. Whealdon, of Was co county, fnlled to reach the city last evening on his contemplated trip to Weston, to look over the condition of the Weston Normal. He will be here next Monday and In company with Representative Blakeley, visit Weston on that day. D. Dougherty, a farmer of Tutuilla, Is in the city today on a trading trip. He reports the grain In that part of the county as not In any danger from freezing out. Most of it is up and out of reach of the cold weather, and some of It has not yet sprouted and Is therefore safe. Very little, If any, reseedlng will be necessary. R. R. Collins, a prominent wood dealer of Kamela, and a fruit farmer of Freewater. was In the city last evening on his way from the wood camps at Kamela, to his home at Freewater. where his family resides. "There Is an overabundance of flats." said Mr. Calderhead, "and there are enough freights for all Im mediate needs. The Washington ft Columbia River road is moving little wheat just now. Unlike the O. R. ft N. It was able to secure plenty of ears early In the seuRon so as to clear up Its heavy work and prevent delay. The O. R. & X. has still a grent deal of its eastern shipments to get out. With us about the only freight of any importance just now Is the ordinary run of stuff coming In over the North ern Pacific." The city election pussed over quietly yeBterday, there being but 4 8 votes cast out of a total of 200 In the city. There was but one ticket In the field, which was elected as follows: Mayor, S. A. Barnes; re corder, L. F. Wood; treusurer, J. R. Kllgore; councllmen, two years, M. A. Bryson, M. A. Baker and J. R. King; one year, H. K. Brandt, C. H. Stan field and C. T. Barbour. The election Is an endorsement of the policy of Mayor Barnes, which hus- for Its keynotes civic economy, cleanliness and strict enforcement of the laws. New Directory of Pendleton. W. J.
