Mr. and Mrs. W. Davidson, of
Umatilla, are visiting in Pendleton
today. Mr. Davidson has resided at
Umatilla for many years, and Is well
known In Pendleton.
J. W. Stamper, of Birch Creek, is
In the city today, on a trading trip.
He reports the grain In that portion
of the county to be growing nicely.

lutely necessary.
B. F. McElroy, the well known res
ervation farmer, was a business vis
itor today. Reservation wheat is in
excellent condition and there is no
prospect at this time of any of it hav
ing to be reseeded.
W. W. Wolf, one of the prominent
farmers of the Echo district, is a bus
iness visitor today. Mr. Wolf raised
large crop of broomcorn and sorg
hum cane this season, and finds that
they both pay in the Echo country.
He will seed more land to both crops
next year.
Mrs. A. C. Nlxdorff. who hss been
seriously ill for the pas; two weeks,
is n irvalescent. Her son, Olen, who
contracted typhoid at La Cross,
Wash., has entirely recovered and

Lewis and Clark centennial.
The forestry building at the Lewis
and Clark centennial will be the sec
ond largest log building ever erected.
One of the logs used In the con
struction of the forestry Duiiuing ai
the lewis and Clark exposition weigh
ed 27 tons.
An Interesting collection of old
mining implements will form a part
of Oregon's exhibit at the Lewis and
Clark centennial.
Several large rose beds have been
laid out In the LewlB and Clark cen
tennial grounds and the roses are
now In full bloom.
The annual convention of the Na
tional Association of Railroad Com
missioners which will meet In Dead
wood, S. D., next August, will adjourn
to Portland and hold Its concluding
sessions at the Lewis and Clark centennial.
Preliminary work on the govern
ment building at the Lewis and Clark
fair is progressing rapidly, and al
ready the necessary excavations have
been made and the foundation tim
bers laid. The building will be corn
