Hailey, vice president of the National Irrigation Congress, ac companied by Mrs. Hailey and daugh ters, returned home this morning from an extended visit east. Mr. Hal ley was In El Paso during the recent convention. He Is an enthusiast on the subject of Irrigation and the rec-, lnmatlon of arid lands. Mr. Hailey is at his ranch today. i During his trip east he visited the St. Louis fair and the large cities of the Atlantic coast, and returned home through California, stopping for a week at points of Interest. seven weeks Bonver Near Boise. Willis, of Echo, who came up to receive medical attention several days ago, accompanied Mr. Willis home last evening. E. H. Booth, agent for the Wash ington & Columbia River railway at Hunt's Junction, accompanied by his wife, is in Pepdleton today. L. L. Berry, a prominent resident of Milton, Is in Pendleton today. Mr. llerry says the real estate Is booming In Milton, and that trade Is lively. W.. E. Potts, a prominent member of the Caledonian society of Athena, was In the city today on business. The society will hold the annual election this month. E. E. Hurvey left hist night for a visit to Eastern Kansas, Western Mis souri and Illinois, expecting to be ab sent at least until February 1. This is Mr. Harvey's first trip east In 17 years. A. Pernrd, the well known sheep man of Pilot Rock, Is In the city on a business visit today. The range In that section of the county is in fine condition, and sheep are all In the best of condition. Conductor Martin Anderson, who has been at Hot Lake for several days, has returned home greatly im proved In health and will resume his run tomorrow . There are now about 65 patients at the sanitarium. Mr. and Mrs. H. Davis, of The Dalles, who have been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Crawford, left lust evening for their home. Mr. Davis Is a fireman on the O. R. & N. out of The Dulles and Mrs. Davis is a sister of MrB. Crawford. . , J. D. Guyette. of Cayuse, Is In the city today on business. He reports wheat growing nicely In that section of the county and the prospects now good for an excellent crop. The rain has been general all over that portion of the wheat belt.. Dr. T. J. Lloyd, the veterinarian, returned last evening from a profes sional trip to Helix. Dr. Lloyd finds that Umatilla county, farmers all own good horses and take the best care of them. No other farming commu nity In Eastern Oregon gives as much attention to the health of work horses as Umatilla county farmers, he, de clares. ,' . T. T. Land and family, of Helix, left this morning for Coqullle City, Coos county, where Mr. Land owned property. They will remain for the winter, returning to Helix next spring. Mr. Land has lived In Coos county for a number of years and while he still owns land there, thinks that no place In the west can beat Umatilla county. , " ,n Maude Maybelle Atkins, of Kallspel, Mont, .who has been vis iting her daughter, Mrs. J.
