CHRISTENSEN, OF LEXINGTON, IS MARRIED Widow Courted by Mall Arrived In Pendleton and Became His Bride Correspondence of Over a Year Re milled In a Match Sherman and Morrow County Bachelors Import ing their Wive from the East Mr. Christensen and Bride are Both Delighted with the Choice Made at Iong Range. Sherman and Morrow county bach elors are Importing wives from the east, because of the scarcity of mar riageable girls In the short grass counties of Oregon. Yesterday P. c. Christensen, of Lexington, a prosperous bachelor of 43, was married In this city to Mrs. Nettie Bailey, of Norfolk. Va., whom he had courted ami won by mall. Mr Christensen was Introduced t.i Mrs. Bailey by Mrs. Charles Rarnett. of this city, some months acc. through correspondence. Both Mr. Christensen and Mrs. Bailey were matrimonially Inclined. The correspondence waxed fervent, the proposal was flashed across the continent, the acceptance was flashed back, the date was fixed, the prosper ous bachelor sent a ticket to his r.l fianced, and the romantic story reached a happy climax when Rev. Robert Warner, of the M. E. ahurch, performed , the wedding ceremony Sunday, afternoon at the home of Mrs. Charles Barnett. Within the pant few years twelve bachelors of Sherman and Morrow counties have Imported wives from the crowded eastern states, where good single men are scarce and esti mable widows and marriageable girls are plentiful. . It la not recorded whether Mr. Christensen searched the Morrow county foothills thoroughly before sending east for a wife, but, at any rate, he now has a wife in his lone, ly home, and both Mr. and Mrs. Christensen are supremely satised with the bargain made at long range. It required about a year's courtship to convince both parties that they were Intended 'for each other. It Is almost 8,000 miles from Lexington, Oregon, to Norfolk, Virginia, but love knows neither distance nor difficulty In Its resistless growth, and when the bride and groom met In Pendleton and gased upon each other for the first time, both were happy in the choice ITiey had made and there was no delay In the wedding arrange ments. Mrs. Bailey goes to be the happy mistress of a good home, as Mr. Christensen Is a well-to-do farmer. owning a large tract of land In Mor- row county, near Lexington, and is an Industrious, frugal man. He Is more delighted than he can well express ut the result of his courtship by mail. Men's and Young Men's ...SUITS... OntheMstallmentPlaiii i THE STORE THAT IS GAINING IX CLOTHING SALES EVERY DAY. Carload of 20.000 Pounds Sold at 2)4 Onts Per Pound. A carload of chlttim bark of 20.000 pounds was shipped East by Bog-Bess & Co., Monday, having been sold to pat-eixt mietlictne manufacturers at 4 H cent per pound, says the Salem Jour nal. This is considered cheap for chltti-m bark, as It has been as high as 18 cetrts within the pust few years. ChltTtm bark, however. Is becoming scarcer on the coast, owing to the fact that peeling the bark kills the trees, and than -very few trees have been set out to meet the deficiency. Some farmers have set branches out on the hillsides -which are not fitted for pasture or for plowing, but the area of such planting Is consid ered very small. Some dealers think chlttim bark will be worth II a pound within the next five years. Most of the patent medicines made for stomach. Sliver and kidney trouble contain diluted essence of chlttim bark, and the only part of the coun try where this bark Is found In good supply is west off 'the Cascade range of mountains.
