The Commercial Creamery com
pany, of Salem, will enter the Lewis
ton territory and have a creamery ln
stalled and in operation early in Jan
uary.
The company has contemplated en
tering the Lewiston field for the past
year and representatives have made
a careful canvass of the country that
will send cream to the Lewiston
creamery.
Recently R. A. Goodhue, of Sulem.
visited there and spent several days
in the reservation country. The re
sults of the investigation have been a
favorable recommendation to the
members of the company at Salem.
and the definite announcement of the
Intention of the company to install a
plant here has now been made.
The Commercial Creamery com
pany is one of the strongest creamery
companies In the west, and has de
veloped a great industry in the Wil
lamette valley, where the company
has its headquarters.
When the company commenced op
erations at Salem several years ago
the dally output of the plant was less
than 100 pounds, while at the present

dally manufacture of 2.000 nnunds nf
putter, besides a large business In
manufacturing ice cream during the
summer months. R. A. Goodhue,
secretary or the company, will go to
Lewiston and have charge of the
plant there during the early months

from the time the plant is installed.
The same company investigated the
creamer- prospects In Umatilla coun
ty about a year ago. and had a suf
ficient number of cows been secured
would have had a $6,000 plant In op
eration in this city now.
George D. Goodhue, traveling rep
resentative of the company, visited
every portion of Umatilla county and
after a thorough Investigation pro
nounced It the best opening for a
creamery in the entire northwest.
If 400 cows could be secured In the
district tributary to Pendleton this
coming year the Commercial Cream
ery company will very likely enter
his field: if not. It is thought local
capital will start a creamery here.
