8. J. Reynolds has returned, and
this morning went to Weston, where
he will be employed for some time.
Mr. Reynolds worked on the O. R.
N. water system out of this place for
four months last spring.
Miss Mollle Mstcalf went to Spo
kane this morning, where she will
enter the nurses' training school at St
Luke's hospital. Miss Metcaif Is a
sister of Mrs. Joseph Charles, who ac
companied her to Spokane and will
return naxt week.

arrived this morning from Ontario.

Robert Travis, of Salem, has come
to Pendleton with the intention of re-
siding at least till spring, when he
may purchase farming lands. Mr.
Travis came from Cleveland. O., three
mouths ago. For the present he will
make his home with C. E. McClelland
on the letter's Tutuilla farm.
Ensign Kuhn and J. D. Clark, of
the Salvatlou Army, returned last
nlsht from their lecturing tour. It
extended as fur as Fossil and would
have extended farther but for Mr.
Kuhn being summoned to Portland
by a telegram from the authorities at
the head of the army in the North
west.
Volney Bell, of Beverly, W. Va., is
here. Mr. Bell has had much exper
ience in tobacco raising and has un
derstood from various sources that
tobacco culture ought to succeed In
the Northwest. With this under,
sti ndlng he will Investigate the pot
slbllltles of the country In that re
spect.

Young Women In tlie Hare for the

Fair.
Three of the most popular young
women of 8t. Mary's parish are in
the race at the Hospital fair for the
diamond ring that will be given away
tonight. Balloting has been going on
since the opening night. The contest
will close at 0:30 o'clock tonight.
The girls being voted for are Miss
Stella Matthews. Miss Anna Delature
and Miss Lulu Llnbaugh. Friends of
the three are muking strenuous ef
forts to win a majority of the votes
and some heavy balloting will mark
the last hours of the contest.
The Sisters of St Francis, who have
charge of the fair, express satisfaction
with the manner In which the people
have patronised them, and a crowd

evening. A large number or the ar

been sold and chances on the goods
in he raffled tomorrow night are
nearly all taken.

ball team and a squad of rooters.

played with the high school eleven of
thti city. At the tryout last night
the line-up of the Pendleton team
as made known by Coach Dan P.
Smythe.
The Pendleton team Is considered
fast for the practice Its members
have had. The boys who compose
the eleven are:

man or Thompson; center, Carl Eng

The average weight of the players
Is 151 pounds stripped. The heaviest
man on the team Is .Scott, who
eighs 177 pounds. The lightest man
is Thompson, 136 pounds.
The next game to be played on the
home grounds will be with the Wes
ton Normal, November 11. The high
school second team and the normal
boys played a tie game at Weston
two weeks ago.
