pests by the introduction of diseased
trees into new and growing fruit dis
tricts. "We do not bar out anv nursery
stock from any state, that is accom
panied by the proper certificate from
the state horticultural board, and
Oregon nursery men should not take
this as an Insult. It Is only a pre
cautionary measure, which we must
Insist on.
"It will help Oregon as much as
W ashlngton In the end. for if Oregon
nursery men know that they must
have a certificate for their trees be
fore shipping them out of the state,
they will see that they are in condi
tion to be Inspected before they offer
them for sale.
"As most of the outside market for
Oregon nursery stock is found In the
state of Washington. It Is to the mil.
tual interest of both states that noth
ing but clean and healthy Block should
be handled. ,
"What would effect Oregon fruit

Thanksgiving Ax Falls.
In order that the memory of a large
herd of turkeys, now thriving on the
foothills on the north side of the Co
lumbia river, near Umatilla, may not
pass entirely from human annals with
the fateful fail of the Thanksgiving
ax. Major Moorhouse will go down
next Sunday, to take a picture of the
herd, on its native sand hllL
There are aald to be over 400 fat
gobblers In the herd, the largest herd
of turkeys ever graced on the range
of the Inland Empire, and its day of
fattening and feasting on tile Colum
bia river grasshopper la drawing to a
close.
