The returning delegates from the Baptist State Convention at McMInn- vllle, bring unanimous reports of an enthusiastic session and of general church progress being reported from all sections of the state. A brief syn opsis of the 'work of the church throughout the state is as follows: There are SB mission churches, In which work 43 missionary pastors. These 65 mission churches have a membership of 2890, and sustain 41 Sunday schools with an enrollment of 3176. These same churches last year raised for benevolences, 2711.34 There are now in the state 121 Bap tist church organizations, with a total membership of 8309. During the year just ended .there were taken Into the church In this state by baptism 664, while the num ber received otherwise was 837, mak ing a total taken Into the church dur ing the year of 1501. The convention developed the fact that of all the church's varied Inter ests evangelism has been during the past year, and now Is, the one and all absorbing topic throughout the state, One result Is that one of the church's greatest evangelists will come Into the state during the coming winter Rev. H. Wise Jones of Buffalo, N. Y.. un der whose ministrations during three regular pastorates over sun conver sions were brought about. This week Rev. Buffalo, Oct. 17. The McLennen Paint Company's works at Black Rock, were damaged by fire to the extent of $160,000 today. An Im mense tank of varnish was punctur ed and flowed down the river, taking fire, creating a spectacular scene. - Firemen protected neighboring buildings until the fire burned out. Four firemen were injured. California's Slimy Prices. Sacramento, Cal., Oct. 18. Califor nia has been awarded 14 gold, 12 sil ver and 22 bronze medals from the mining department of the St .Louts exposition. Also two grand, nine gold, five silver and 11 other prizes from the livestock department.
