Still Slaughtering Slicop.
Word was brought to town Monday
that unknown parties had fired into
a hand of sheep belonging to Thomas
Fitzgerald, which wore camped on
the slide on the head of West Branch.
The shooting was done by five men
Inst Friday night about 11, p. in.,
while the sheep were leaving the bed
ding ground. Over 100 shots were
fired at the sheep and eighty shells
were picked up. Thirty-eight sheep
were killed outright and 12 have died
since, making a loss of 50 head. Two
bullets passed through the herder's
tent when he vamoosed without fur
ther ceremony. Mitchell News.

The Dalles has again been honored
through Columbia Chapter No. 33, O.
E. S., In the appointment of Mrs.
Mary Scott Myers of this city, as most
worthy grand chaplain of the general
chapter of the United Stntes. The
appointment was made nt the session
ln St. Louis last week, and the choice
was a good one. Oregon was asusunl
to the front and Mrs. Madeline B.
Conkllu of Koseburg, was chosen
most worthy grand matron. In this
Columbia chapter was also honored,
she being nil honorary member of the
