Monster Apples.
Morris Lttndy bus some fine npples
on exhibition today. They are of the
Gloria Mundl variety, weigh 22
ounces each, and were raised by J.
H. Stott out on tho bench. The fruit
will be shipped to D. E. Hurley, gen
eral passenger agent of the Oregon
Short Line, in order that be may show
what Idaho apples look like. It is
common to see apples as large as
pumpkins, but a 22 ounce apple with
a circumference of nearly 20 Inches,
is certainly in t he pumpkin class.

TO PREVENT STEALING.
Law Proposed That Will Safeguard
Stockmen of Oregon.
Stock thieving is likely to become
a tiling or the past if the bill which
has recently been originated by
George Ilolm of Paulina becomes a
low at the next session of the legisla
ture when It Is presented, says tho
Crook County Journal. The provisions
ot" the bill are such as will do away
altogether with the profitable side of
the nefarious trade which bus been
costing stockmen losses of their prop
erty and have put different counties
to great expense recently In hunting
down and prosecuting stock thieves.
The bill in question is one which
rovers the ground thoroughly and one
which, if it becomes a state law will
make it Impossible for a stock thief
to tlnd n market for his stolen prop
erty, Inasmuch as provision is mode
for a' bill of sale from the last pre
ceding owner whenever a transfer of
stock Is made. The bill as lias been
drawn up, Is as follows:
"It shall be unlowful to .offer for
sale any horse, cow or sheep In the
state of Oregon, unless such sale be
ncconipanled by authority In writing
In the form of a bill of sale given by
the last preceding owner, and sub
scribed before a justice of the peace
or notnry.
"And It shall bo equally unlawful
to purchase any horse, cow or sheep
from any person whatsoever, without
the sale be accompanied by ilio trans
fer of such authority.
"Provided, The description of ani
mals with brands and maiks be suffi
cient evidence of ownen-hlp in the
original bill of sale from tho pro
ducer, or raiser of such animal, when
properly subscribed os required in
section l."
