There have been many Instances
of qualified and duly accredited min

number who frankly give all their
reasons therefor ns does one, a resi

small. The fact being called to the

the active ministry, I have not, by
any means, abandoned It. I am sim

of accumulating a decent competence
for my family and for the latter part
of my own life, before re-entering It."
Plied with Questions uion other
phases or the very Interesting sub

continued:
"When I married I took upon my
self the same responsibilities, dfflrm
cd by the same Bolemn obligations,
toward my wife, as other young men
more fortunately situated In relation
to temporal affairs, and I soon found
thnt it was a hopeless struggle to at

continue In the ministry, although I
was getting from $000 to $700 per
year.
"So. In order to save myself from

"As I said, I have not abandoned
the ministry. The work or tho Mas
ter as defined lp- the ministerial lines
Is as dear to me as ever, and the
need of more thorough work has
deepened upon me since I -have come
In contact with that side of life in
business that was turned from me
when I was a minister only, and I In
tend to re-enter it when I am no
longer dependen upon collections
and donations from people many of
whom can 111 afford to divert a penny
oven from the oidinary demands of
evory-day life.
"It Is that phase or the ministerial
life that Is exceedingly distasteful to
me, and I made up my mind before
I entered upon a business life not to
re-enter It until ns a minister my
coming and going and the needs of
my family did not impose a burden
upon the poor who are protesting
Christians and want to have the gos
pel preached to them, hut do not have
the wherewithal to contribute to the
support or the church as they wish.
"While I believe in the coming or
the mlllonlum, yet the minister who
preaches ror a large purse will never
be a Tuctor In bringing the event
about. Self and the dollar must re
main unknown quantities. The suc
cessful minister or today must stand
on the same lovol financially as the
moving factors of his congregation.
Let him so preach as to win members
to tho church, and not dollars to his
purse."
