The report that 2(i,0u0 tons or government oats which were shipped to the Philippines on the last voyage of the steamer Shawmut, were destroyed, owing to Improper care being taken In loading tl;em on the steamer, was denied by the Prank Waterhouse company this morning. i The Frank waterhouse company has received a telegram from Its Philippine agents which states that but u small part of the oats was de I stroyed during the voyage, and that ' the whole claim made against the I company by the quartermaster's de partmont at Manila amounted to less than ?50. Tho report that the oats were spoiled while being shipped from this city to the Philippines was set afloat after Quartermaster General lium phrles. as Is alleged, had said that oats grown on Puget Sound were un fit for shipment to tho Philippines, as on their arrival there they were found In a musty condition, not having been properly cured. For a Hundred lears. For a hundred years or more Witch Hazel lias been recognized as a supe rlor remedy, but It remained for E. C, DeWitt & Co., of Chicago, to dlscorver how to combine the virtues of Witch Hnzel with other antiseptics, in the form of a salve. DeWItt's Witch Ha zel Salve Is tho best salve In the world for sores, cuts, burns, bruises and piles. The high standing of this salvo has given rise to counterfeits, and the public is advised to look for the name, "DeWItf on the package, and accept no other. Sold by Tall man & Co. TO PREVENT DISASTERS. New York City Takes Steps to Guard Against Theater Horrors. New York, June 18. Theatrical managers are seriously opposed to the new theater ordinance, which was approved by Mayor McCellan the other day and Is now a law. The ob ject of the ordinance Is to prevent the repetition of the terrible holocaust at the Iroquois theater In Chicago. The provisions of the ordinance are so radical, however, that they will make It practically impossible to erect any more new theaters In the Broadway district. Under the provisions of the ordi nance so much Bpace is required for alloy room, that the erection of any building complying with the law, under the present real estate prices would be altogether out of the ques tion. Among other things tho new ordinance provides that all balconies and staircases must be or iron. Tallman & Co. ask the readers of this paper to test tim vninn of Kodol Dyspepsia Cure.
