George Peebler, of Meachani, Has Fine Prospects for a Crop at an El evation of 3600 Feet. George Peebler, who resides about seven miles west of Mcacham on the high plateau lying nonr the summit ot the Ulue mountains, has an excel lent fruit prospect this year. Ills farm Is located at an elevation of about 3fi00 feet above sea level and yet his peaches, plums, cherries, ap ples and apricots will all bear very wmmI yields without damage from frost. He has 200 acres In cultivation, most ot this being seeded to timothy and grain hay, and his hay crop Is better than for a number of years, Timothy Is a native product ot high elevations, all the flats In the Blue mountains having been seeded by campers, bear luxuriant growths of this hay without cultivation or Irri gation. At a meeting of the citizens yesterday nfternoon It was decided to hold n two days' cel ebration, on July i and 5, and com mittees on arrangement were ap pointed. Both days will bo devoted to patri otic: programs, and one of the finest displays of fireworks ever seen In Athena will bo given on the evening of July 5. A general committee, consisting of A. M. Olllls, chairman. William Mos grove, Ed Manasso, Dr. A. W. Hot kin, Sam Booher and Dr. J. D. Pin mondon, was appointed, with assign ments as follows: Mosgrovo, grounds and parade; Johnson, music; Botkln, program and speakers; Plamondon, sports and amusements; Booher, fire works, and Manasse, finance. H. A. Barrett will be marshal of the day. The citizens of Athena extend a cordial invitation to the peoplo of Umatilla county to attend tho cele bration, and as there Is to bo no other celebration In this portion of the county, a large attendance is assured. Some of tho residents or the west end held a meeting last evening, at which time the location of a school site for that part of town was pretty thoroughly discussed, and It wns de cided to appoint n couple of men to make n canvass of Hie west end and find the sentiment of the school pa trons and taxpayers In regard to the location. H. V. Hasbrom k and J. K. Carrier were appointed, and will today make n canvass of the district with u cou ple of petitions, one asking tho board to locate on the baseball park site, and the other praying for the pur chase of tho old poor farm property Mr. Hasbrouck will clreulato the base ball park petltlou, und Mr. Carrier the one favoring Hie location of the old farm property. Tho board will at Its next meeting look over tho two petitions, and lie guided to a great extent In their llnan clal decision by Hie evident Intention of the signers.
