Two Hundred and Fifty Patrons and Business Men Expected to Meet General Manager McGilevray To. night at Commercial Association Parlors It Is Up to the People Now to Secure or Turn Down an Improved, Modern, Up-to-Date Phone System. The meeting of the Commercial As sociation this evening promises to bo one of the largest and most Import ant that has been held for some lime. It is expected and has been promis ed, that at least 250 business men nnd patrons of the telephone system will be In attendance to discuss the plans to be submitted to them by Manager McGilevray, of tho Tele phone Company, with a view to im proving It. Mr. McGllevray's visit is the result of the agitation on the part of tho business men, and the co-operation of Miss Moussu, manager of the local office. He has n plan which he has explained to the patrons of the sys tem whereever he has been able to meet with them, and which has met with the universal approval of all who have heard It. If the people of this place wish to have the new service and will act In harmony with the company, the new agreements will be drawn up at once, and the company will put as largo a force of men to work here as can be handled, and the new 'phones will bo Installed as fast as possible. The new system will place the Pendleton service ahead of that of Spokane If It is ndopted, and will give the city all the conveniences that can be secured In any telephone ser vices on the coast. The meeting will be called to order this evening at S oclock, and It lb desired that all those Interested will be present and listen to the discus sion, and take part In It. Miss Nora Snyder, of Grass Val ley, is visiting friends In the city for a few days. John A. Melntyre. one of the prom inent residents uf Athena, was a Pen dleton visitor today. Mr, and Mrs. J. G. Richardson, of Cold Springs, spent the day visiting with friends in the city. H. A. Richardson, of Helix, was a Pendleton visitor today, having come in to hear the full returns of the election. Miss Myrtle DuRette, of Salem, Is the guest of friends in the city for a few days. She will return to her home shortly after having spent some time visiting in Eastern Oregon. Zoe Houser, who is deeply Interest ed in the Standard mine, in the Quartzburg district, passed through town Monday on his way to his home In Pendleton. Long Creek Eagle. Colin V Dymeni, the field man of the Spokesman Review, was in fie city from Walla Walla yesterday and today, having come down to report the result of the election to his paper. E. L. Bainett, a prominent citizen of Athena, aud one of the republican leaders of the county, was a Pendle ton visitor today, coming over to hear the full returns of the election.
