Tho rains early Tuesday morning occurred after tho following reports wero mado. Thoy wero not only timely, but well distributed, and glvo promise of continuing for an other day or two. In which caso thoy will bo sufficient for all needs and greatly stimulate tho growth of lato crops. Late wheat Is coming up to poor stands, and corn, potatoes and gar dens are growing slowly. Forage crops, except timothy, nro doing well, and tho first crop of alfalfa is being harvested with satisfactory yields. Stock everywhere is In excellent con dition. Fall wheat, barley and ryo are heading nicely, and these crops aro generally in a very promising condi tion, notwithstanding that some low land wheat In Umatilla county was badly damaged by freezing weather earlier In tho Season. Hops nro grow ing nicely and the hop men havo now caught up with their work so that the yards generally aro well cultivated.
