This is four days earlier than tho beginning of tho crop of 1903, tho first berries having been delivered last yenr on May 20. Tho extraordi nary growing weathor of the past two weeks Is responsible for this early maturity of tho crop. By May 20, this ontlro district will be ripening and 1,000 people will ho busily engaged in harvesting tho greatest crop of strawberries and blackberries over grown in Umatilla county, and one of tho first questions asked by tho East Oregonlan, in col lecting data on the crop yesterday, was: "Are you going to label your fruit Freowator fruit,' or are you going to allow It to go as 'Wolla Walla product?'" Every box shipped from Freowator and Milton this year will bear the Oregon brand. In tho district tributary to the O. It. & N. station at Freowater are ap proximately 200 acres of strawber ries, 20 per cent more thnn last year. Tho berry box and crate manufac ture Is no small feature of tho berry harvest. Tho crop In the Milton and Froownter district will require almost 1,000,000 of tho small boxes, 21 or which are placed in each crato, and at least -15,000 crates, will bo used for tho berrv crop.
