Educated Celestial Tries to Serve
Two Gods at Once in Baker City.
Charles Emow. the educated China
man, has troubles of his own. says
the Baker City Herald." His people
have issued the edict that Charles
shall not worship God and Mammon
both at the same time. They put It
under a different head, however.
They say Charlie shall not bow at
the feet of their great joss and at the
same time worship the Mellcan man's
God.
They are willing that Charlie may
follow the American plan of worship,
hut they declare that he must get off
of the fence. Charles was sailing un
der two banners of worship without
a ripple in the way, but he went too
far. He Btrnck the breakers yester
day with a dull thud and received
notice immediately to vacate China
town or bow to one God or the other
alone.
Charles has been running with the
Salvation Army folks and the Chris-
tlans generally and has become very
popular wUh them. At tne same
time he has been an ardent devotee
to Joss, and his Chinese friends have
notified him to be either a Christian
or Pagan.
