County Came at the Right Time,
The past week has been cool and
showery, with several frosty morn
ings. It was favorable for advancing
farm work, but too cool for rapid
growth. Fall wheat and fall barley
ore everywhere In excellent condU
tlon, and In some localities early
sown fall barley is beginning to head.
Spring seeding is nearly finished,
except on the low, heavy lands, and
tho early seeded wheat, barley and
oats have all come up to good stands.
Pasturage, grasses and such forago
plants as vetch and cheat arc doing
splendidly. Stock continues improv
ing and the flow of milk in the dairy
herds Is excellent. Sheop shearing
is well under way, with the indica
tions that the clip will be an average
one.
In a few locnlltles hops havo been
Injured by frost, and tho vines every
where have not done so well as they
did the previous week. The cultiva
tion of the hopyards for the first
time has been practically completed,
nnd the hop3 are now nearly to the
top of the poles, or twine, as the caso
may be.
Gnrdens are bacUwanl, nnd some
tender varieties of vegetables have
been slightly injured by frost. 1-ato
gardens and late potatoes are being
planted, and considerable land Is be
ing prepared for corn, but not much
ha3 yet been planted. Frosts have
badly damaged Italian prunes, and
Royal Ann cherries are reported to
have been severely Injured In many
localities. Petite prunes and peaches
have set well nnd there Is, n profusion
of apple bloom.

crop report giveB the condition of
winter wheat 70.05 per cent of tho
acreage. The area under winter
wheat cultivation Is 27,083,600 acres.
The condition of winter ryo Is 81.0G
of the acreage. Winter wheat Is
15.04 per cent less than area sown
last fall.
