Professor Roy Conklln, the mana
ger of the Pendleton high school
track team, has been holding little
try-outs for sovernl ovemngs to de
termine who will be the eight men
to compose the team to go to Walla
Walla next Friday to meet with the
other scholastic teams for a field
day, and has at last selected all of
the team with the exception of one
cvenL
Tho entry for the discus Is still in
doubt, and lies between George
Strnnd and Lester Means, who will
havo a little field day of their own
soon to ascertain which Is entitled
to the distinction.
Tho team is limited to eight man,
and tho selections have been made
with a view of getting the best men
for the single events rather than
the men who will make the best
general average, as it Is hoped by
that to get first place winners in
each event entered. The manage
ment has strong hopes of success on
Friday noxt.
Running Events.
Wl)l Wyrlck, the captain of the
team, Is doing good work in the 100
nnd 220-yard dashes, and will go to
Wnlla Walla to attempt to tnko tho
first placo In both events.
James Iteoves and Frank Plerco
will run tho 440-ynrd dash for tho
Pendleton team, Roy Loezer iho 880,
and tho relay team will bo made up
of Frank Pierce, Jnmes Iteoves, Hoy
Leczcr nnd Clarence Uollcrman. All
nro fast, and tho fnlth of tho stu
dents Is pinned to them for winners.
Jumping Champions.
Lester Cronln Is scheduled for tho
high Jump and tho polo vault, and
Is regarded ns a strong man sure of
points. C. Dollerman will do tho
broad jump, nnd either George
Strand or Lester Means the discus.
Hurdle Work.
So Williams Is getting into shapo
for tho 120 and 220 hurdles, and
will be suro of leading tho bunch if
ho can shake off the plowboy gait
ho has been ncquring for some timo
on his farm. Ho has been in the
country looking after the seeding of
his spring crops and has not been
training as the other boys have, but
ho Is recognized as one of the fast
est men in this part of the country
when in trim, and is polishing up
his spikes each evening with the rest
of the bunch. In a week he will be
in fairly good trim and ready for tho
meet.

Teams from tho Walla Walla high
school, Whitman Academy, Dayton
high school, Baker City high school,
Waltsburg Academy, Huntsvlllo
Academy nnd tho Pendleton high
school will be entered and it Is ex
pected this year that other schools
will bo thero with ejfher full teams
or special men for particular events.
Tho Pendleton team will havo
some fnst men, and it Is expected
that they will lead the flock whon
the points are footed, up at the end
of the last event.
