Spokesman-Review. Surveying Automobile Road. A crew of surveyors, under John Hammond of Cline Falls, began work this week ln the vicinity of Cross Keys In laying out n six mile track which will bo used as an experiment al road for the automobile line, the nrrangemonts for which are now well under way. The englners will finish the survey of this line some timo next week, when the grading will bo done and the road completed for use. It Is the Intention of A. E. Ham mond, who Is at the head of the en terprise, to pack the road with petro leum if the latter does not prove too expensive a product after It has been brought into the country. As soon as the six-mile course Is finished, a Cld lilac machine will bo put on nnd trial run will be made. If the ven ture proves that an automobile Is a feasible means of transportation, the road will be extended to the Bend and Prlnevllle and a regular running schedule adopted. Harney County News. Cattle Prices Looking Up. Frank Rice soul 70 head of 3-year-old steers Saturday to Mossle & Sons of Ukiah, for $31 per head. This is the highest price paid this season for 3-year-olds. Three weks ago buyers were only offering $24, and the raise of $7 in so short a time, looks like cattle would yet ho a goSd price this season. It Is said there nre more rattle buyers in the field in Eastern Oregon nt the present time than there has been for several years at this time of the year. True, they are not offering much, but prices have materially In creased since the season opened, nnd this very fact, coupled with the num ber of buyers, makes cattlemen con fident that they will yet get better prices for their stock this year than they did last Long Creek Light.
