Mr. Smith reports seri ous damage to the prune crop In the upper part of the county by the frost of last night. He says the fine or chard of E. N. Thomas is practically ruined for this year and other grow ers are of the opinion that every tree on low ground will not bear a pound of fruit. The Thomas fruit farm Is one of the largest in the south end of Marion county and com prises about 40 acres of fine prune trees. A large crop was picked last year nnd the prospects 10 days ago were for another heavy yield. The frost, however, caused the bloom to drop and there Is scarcely a live bud on the trees. The orchard Is locat ed on low land nnd it is thought that the hill farms are not affected as severely, if at all, because the frost did not appear to be as heavy on high ground. Salem Journal. Best Year In Ten. ' George Chandler has given out an opinion on the prospects for this season, through the columns of the Baker City Democrat In which ho says some hopeful things. As the comments apply here as well as at Raker, the substance of the talk is reproduced. The main statement .made by Mr. Chandler is that this season now coming on promises the richest re turns to the stockmen and farmers of any In 10 years. The damp weather has made the grass grow luxuriant ly and it is safe to say there will be the biggest crop or hay and grain raised In many years. Cattle and sheep came through 'the winter in fairly good shape and ; .fwmird the trip was me eariy pusiuie uuu yimuiic w Ik to Bole under difficulties long range means a large production gam At one point it be- of extraordinary fine quality of l-essirr to carry her in a siock. which rauuw ". - 111 hundred feet up the steep 'nign a price as uie Ui Under Difficulties. pirn's mamas .
