Smith made the following declaration on polygamy: "Inasmuch as there are numerous reports in circulation that plural marriages have been entered con trary to the official declaration or President Woodruff ot September 2(i, 1890, commonly called the manires to, which was issued by President Woodruff and adopted by the church at Its general conference October C, 1890, which forbid any marriages violative of the laws of the land, I, Joseph F. Smith, president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, hereby afflrm and de clare that no such marriages have been solemnized with the sanction, consent of knowledge or the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
