Hamilton, For merly of Umatilla County, Who Is a Delegate to the World's Sunday School Convention Writes From Spot at Which Saint Paul Was Shipwrecked. R. D. Hnmllton of La Grande, who Is one of Oregon's delegates to tho "World's Sunday school convention -which Is to be held In Jerusalem, has written Boveral lotters of Inter est In regard to his journoy, says tho La Grande Chronicle. Miss Lora Illchardson, his sister-in-law, is in receipt of a letter (later nt Funchnl, I Madeira, March 10, in which Mr.' Hamilton states: "We arrived here today at 12 o'clock. We went over to Funchnl at 2 o'clock In tho atternoon and found Mndclrn island beyond what I expected to see. I bavo not been sick one minute, although I had cold and sore throat. The people are un usually friendly but some of them have been sick over since we left New York. I will not attempt to tell you everything about my trip oxcept thnt I would not have missed it for any amount of money. "We have in our party some of the smartest men in the United States. "We have fine music, singing, Sundny e school and speaking every night. Wo had a smooth sea all the way ox cept tho first Uny. Our ship is one "it tfc& ilnesl floating palaces on the water." A letter of a later date was re ceived yesterday by Mrs. Hattle Eckley. Mr. Hamilton stated that they had just arrived at Malta, tho place where Apostle Paul was ship rwecked. The letter further gives a description of Algiers, which was the last stopping place before reach ing Malta. Mr. Hamilton says: "Algiers is n very peculiar city and Is densely crowded. The streets nre very nar row, from four to 10 feet wide. I did not know there was so much pover ty in the world as there Is hero, and It only makes a person nppreclate what a good fortune It is to live in the United States, which Is the best country on earth.
