Entirely Out of Debt and Has a Handsome Surplus. A. S. Pearson, city recorder of Freewater, is In town today to attend the county convention, being one of the delegates. Mr. Pearson Is proud of Freewater and thinks it is one of the most pros perous pieces in the state. It now has $2,000 In cold cash in the city treasury and does not owe a cent to any person or corporation, being en tirely out or debt and running on a cash basis. During the spring the city has built about 2.UU0 feet of sidewalk, put up several new business build ings,' made a great many other Im provements, and Is on the upward road generally. There are three saloons In the place which pay a license of $500 each, thus raising funds enough In one lump to pay the ruuning expen ses of the city, so that all the rest of the Income Is clear velvet for the lining of the vault. Frank Rankin, the night man nt A. Nolte's, has been confined to his oom for several days with an attack of grip, but Is now able to be on duty. Judge W. R. Ellis went to Port land this morning on a business trip. He hns delayed uls visit for a time that he might tie able to visit with his friends from over the state who would attend the convention. Hnrru EViwler wns nominated unanimously for the office of county recorder, there being no other name before the convention. For Treasurer. S. Ci. I.lehtfoot. of Vinson, was nominated for treasurer.
