For the opening of the bicycle racing season at the Vallsburg track tomorrow, They Live in Nests. Travelers who hnvo returned from the heart of Africa and tho Australasian continent tell wonder ful stoilcs of nest-building people who Inhabit the wilds of thoso coun tries. In the busitmcn of Australia we find, perhaps, tho lowest order of men that Is known, says tho Penny Magazine. They are so primitive that they do not know enough to build even the simplest form of huts for shelter. The nearest they enn approach to It Is to gather a lot of twigs and grass, nnd taking them Into a thicket or Jungle, build a nest for a home. The nest Is usunlly built largo enough for tho family, nnd If the latter bo numerous then the nests are of a very largo size. Sometimes tho follago abovo will form a natural covering, but there Is never any attempt at construct ing a protection from the rain and storms. The Czar's Presence. "In personal conversation with tho czar nno Is struck Immediately with tho shrinking shyness nnd softly ap prehensive, almost romlnlno sweet ness of tho Russian emperor," says Arnold White In Everybody's maga zine for March. "The contrast bc- I tween the melancholy and reflective icznr nnd tho exuberantly vital kaiser, bubbling nnd boiling with unexpend ed llfo power, can bo appreciated only by thoso who hnvo conversed with both. I "It must not bo supposed Hint Czar Nicholas II Is dentltuto of strength becauso his habitual outlook on llfo Is rather ono of Oriental resigna tion thnn ono of hopefulness that might bo expected from tho head of a great Christian nntlon. The czar Is remarkablo for a dignity which is the more notleeahlo because he Is small In size, and his volco Is gcntlo and womanly. Tho dignity Is like the dignity of Queen Victoria, which Impressed every ono who entered her presence."
