Cosgrove, manager for tho Interstate fair, plans for a new department for the fair tills fall. It Is practically decid ed that a school children's display will be among the leading features at the big fair, and that many valua ble prizes will bo offered as Induce ments for school children to put forth 'their best efforts. Mr, Cosgrove held a conference this afternoon with Superintende.it Tormoy anil the principals of (he school. At this meeting ho outlined tho plan ho proposed and it met with favor, anil tho principals appointed n special committee to take the mat ter up with Air. Cosgrove. "The plan," said Mr. Cosgrove, "is to have tho school children make exhibits of (lowers they have grown themselves, of sewing, cooking drawing, penmanship, woodwork, af well as other work. Pendleton Will Outfit 200 Sheep Shearers This Spring. Pendleton Is tho outfitting nnd starting point for nearly all the sheep shearers In Eastern Oregon. On account of the early season in the county, tho shearers from Union and Baker counties come here to be gin. They can get three weeks' work hero and In Washington, be fore the shearing season arrives fur ther east. These shearers come here singly and in crews, to scatter out to the various sheep districts. It Is esti mated that 200 shearers will outfit In this city this spring, to scatter to the shearing pens of Washington nnd Eastern Oregon. These men make from ($5 to $8 a day, according to tho number of sheep tnoy can shear, and are a jolly gang of boys. Tho crews consist of from 10 to 14 men, and each man buys from one to three pairs of new shears before beginning the season. which means about 300 pairs of shears sold in this city. The Bhearer's outfit consists of three pairs of shears, a now oil stone, a bottlo of oil for the stone, leather for "bumpers," to rig up tho shears so they will not click loudly, and a pair of now overalls.
