Perhaps M. J. Buckley, assistant

remarkable railroad careers of any
man on the Pacific coast.
He began railroading as a brake
man, and his first service on the O.

20 years ago. He was successively
a telegraph operator, nsslstancl 'lis

Mr. Buckley Is familiar "with the
actual work of every department,

on a box car to the promulgation of
rules for tho conduct of officials,
and while he has never run an en
gine, except on rare Instances, Just

details of that department.
His promotion from one position
of trust to another has been rapid,
and his successive steps have not
turned his head, hut tho employe;
finds him today the same consider
ate, approachable man that he was
when one ol the ranks of the train
department or the telegraph office.
