Rolse Statesman.- Portage Road Must Walt. The Celilo canal commission has secured rights of way for the canal from all property owners affected, except I. H. Taft, and hopes soon to reach nn agreement with him, when title will be complete, and the gov eminent may proceed to construct the canal. Because the location cf the portage road and that of the ca nal conflict, the. former was tempo rarlly abandoned. New surveys for the road will be made, but It is prob able that the cost will exceed the appropriation of $105,000, and the bo tion of another legislature must be awaited. The cost of the canal right of way will come Inside the appro priation of $100,000. The Dalles Chronicle. From "Truthful Janus."
