Tho Central California Woodman, in a fit of enthusiasm over the pros pect of a building for tho Women of Woodcraft being located In Fresno, where that paper Is published, says the present headquarters of tho grand guardian is located nt "Pen dleton, Ore., a small, out-of-the-way place, off the main lines of railroad, express or telegraph companies." If the paper in question had taken trouble to iook up the history of Pendleton In Its newspaper directory It would not have uttered this unjust and untrue statement. Pendleton is a city of almost 7.000 people, as shown by Its school cen sus of 1,016 this year; It has Beven through malls each day, is on the main line of tho Harrlman system, reaching from Chicago to Portland, and as great a line as runs through California, and being at the junction of the O. R. & N., from where one main branch line runs to Spokane, Is peculiarly situated with regard to reaching all parts of tho Northwest, with the greatest convenience, The office of the grand guardian could reach ail parts of the Pacific jurisdiction quicker and more cheap ly from this city than from any part of the Northwest or West. Tho W. & C. R. railroad, a main artery of tho Northern Pacific system, touches here, and ramifies through Washing ton, giving quick access to all the principal towns of that state, while the O. R. & N. connects with the Great Northern and Northern main lines at Spokane, placing the states of Idaho and Montana within a very few hours of this city. Pendleton is one of the most prom. Isinc locations that has been wen. tloned for the new building of the Women of Woodcruft, and If tho cit izens and the commercial association exhibit the proper enterprise this macnlHcent building will come to this city. The order will build a splendid of flee buildinc at some place In the Pacific jurisdiction soon, and Pendle ton can show greater advantages than any other city of its size in the jurisdiction.
