The snow lies on the ground in drifts ranging In depth from one to IB or 20 feet, and the continued freezing and thawing ndd much to the inconvenience of travel. George Craigen and wife sold 120 acres of their old home to Thomas Narkaus, for $13.50 per acre. -.r. and Mrs. Craigen are old settlers In this vicinity and will bo much missed. Thev will buy them a home In Athena, where they will re side In future, having leased the remainder of the farm to their son Ben. Quite a pleasant dance was given last Tuesday night at the homo of Mr. and Mrs. B. Higgins, on Wild Horse. Mrs. Bessie McAtee, who has been quite sick for the past two weeKS, Is convalescent. Mrs. Olive Navln returned home Saturday after an absence of two weeks In Weston, where she has been nursing a scarlet fever patient, whom she reports as convalescing. Mrs. A. Johnson who has been confined to her home for the past three weeks over the shock by the loss of their residence and contents by fire, sometime ago, is but little Improved. Anthony Powers and wlte wno have been visiting relatives near Pendleton, have returned. Mr. Pow ers reports the wheat In that vicin ity in excellent condition. Wm. Johnson and family are vis iting Mrs. Johnson's grandmother. Mrs. Wller, at College Place. Wash. J. Vantussle, who has been very low with pneumonia for the past three weeks. Is reported to be slowly recovering. For some time his life , was despaired of. owing to the weak ened condition of his lungs previous ly. Frank Waddlngham has purchased a homestead right In Franklin coun ty. Wash., and will leave soon to re side on and Improve the same. Mrs. R. M. Powers of Weston has rented her home there and will leave for Santa Rosa, California, to bo ab sent all summer. .Should tho climate prove beneficial to her health she will locate there permanently. Mr. and Mrs. Higgins have both been quite sick of grip but are some better at present. James Navln has leased his ranch to U J. McAtee for a number of years, and Is at present contemplat ing a return to Portland with his family to make their homo In the j future. George Waddlngham leaves for Franklin county. Wash., the last of( March to locate a homestead. He was In that section some four weeks ago, hut failed to locate. Wllhelm Forth and White of tho south side erected, maiuly at their own expense, a very fine and' apparently durable foot bridge at the narrowest point In the river. It .has answered the purpose during tho winter but the late roar ing mad water with tho flood trash was too much for It and It lies In a wreck somowhero below. Now It is proper for the whole vicinity to organize and build a cable bridge and do away with a central pier. It will not cost much more.
