Hanley Was Misquoted. William Hanley, n prominent stock man of Burns, spent Sunday In the city says the Blue Mountain Eagle, of Canyon City. To the Eagle he said that the statement published in the Portland papers and reprinted by Eastern Oregon papers to the effect that he was In favor of leasing the government range, Is false. He said that he made no such statement to any Portland paper, and more than j that, he was not an advocate of any such a scheme. Spokane Is threatened with an Ice famine and unless a protracted cold spell comes the few stray chunks of coldness to be doled out by the deal ers on the hot days next summer will be as precious as gold. Of the seven Ice firms In the city, only two have a pound of fresh Ice In the sheds. One fuel company which usually puts up Ice for wholesale purposes and supplies some of the smaller Ice firms of the city, has managed to cut between 2,500 and .1,000 tons on Lake Cocolalla. but that Is the limit. Spokesman-Review. Burglars Tools Found. A kit of blncksmth tools were found under the foundation of the new addi tion to the niue Mountain Fruit Co's warehouse Sunday morning; which were rigged up apparently for the operation of burglars. Investigation revealed the fact that the tools had been stolen from Tom Flemmlng'B blacksmith shop during Saturday night. Officers watchc the ware house during Sunday night, hoping the thieves would return for their plunder, but their vigilance availed them nothing, as the robbers did not return, La Grande Observer. meeting good prices. Christian Church Now Holds the Banner for Conversions In the I Northwest This Season. The revival at the First Christian church continues with great interest and now stands at the head of re vivals In the Northwest for this year. j At the time Rev. Martin closed ills meeting on Sunday night, there had been 143 additions to the church, and on Monday night Ilev. Brooks continued the meeting, adding 10 new members that night, and last ,night nine more additions were made, making a grand total of 1G2 new members added during this continu ous revival of eight weeks, j The largest number of additions made by any other churches in the Northwest this winter, was 152 at Athena, and 158 at Dayton, Washing ton, ! There were 12 baptisms last night, and will bo 15 or 20 more tonight, and the sermon tonight will be on '"Household Conversions." The meetings will be continued In definitely, and announcements will be made In the papers from day to day. Churches May Consolidate. Walla Walla, March 8. The movement which means the federa tion of the First Presbyterian and Cumberland Presbyterian churches has progressed to a point where but the action of the two congregations is needed to perfect the details and that will be taken within a few days. The committees having the matter in charge have made reports and agreed upon the matter In which the union shall be made and the plan of operation in the future. Trial of Henry Seward. Danville. Ind.. March 9. The case of Henry M. Seward, charged with murdering his wife, near Fern, in May, 1903, was called for trial today in the Hendricks circuit court. The case was brought here ou a charge of venue from Putnam county. A large number of witnesses have been summoned and the trial promises to bo one of the most notable that has taken place here In some years. Sentence Postponed. la Ancnles. Cal.. March 8.
