Mrs. Jane Leonard, an aged and respected pioneer of Marlon county, died Saturday, after a long Illness with grip. Rev. S. M. Martin closed a several weeks' revival nt tho Christian church with tho largest crowd ever assem bled in n Pendleton church last night. The Sunday school room, auditori um and gallery were filled to over flowing and all the standing room was taken, many remaining standing during tho entire evening, In order to hear the mngniucent sermon on "Apostasy." This was one of the' ablest sermons evor preached in the city, the climax describing the death of Julian, tho world's greatest apostate, being es pecially dramatic and thrilling. There wore 35 additions to the church last night nnd ytesterdny, 31 by coufesslon nnd four by affiliation. At tho meeting last night $1,417.60 was pledged on the remaining church debt, which is now about cancelled, with tho amount rnlsed last night and about $200 yesterday. During tho seven weeks' revival there have been a total of 143 addi tions to the church, the membership having been more than doubled. The committee and the pastor, N. H. Urooks, having the different phases of the meeting in charge, have been especially actlvo and the campaign has been one of the most successful In the history of the church In East ern Oregon. Many Athena people were present last night to witness tho close of the meeting, and It was a fitting climax for tho energetic work done during tho revival. Row. Martin lett tills morning for Sioux City, Iowa, from there he goes to Cedar Rapids, Enid, Oklahoma; Buffalo, Des Moines, and then jumps hack to Salem, In this state, about one year from this month and last night promised to stop off and preach in this city one night, If possible, on his way to Salem, on his return trip. Ho has remained in Pendleton sev eral days longer than anticipated, owing to the Increasing success of the meetings, and Is now overdue nt his next appointment. Rov. N. H. Urooks will preach to night, and a baptismal service will bo held, at which about 35 converts will bo baptised.
