General Crusade Against Superflu

Only four councllmen appeared rn
the scene last night, and as a result
there was no meeting. Thoso who
did come, however, talked things
over, and It Is probable that at tho
next meeting the city pound will be
moved, by order of the council, to
some placo not so near tho center
of the town.
Marshal Carney Is also about to
Inaugurate a crusade against tic
dogs. Pendleton has more dogs to
the square Inch than any other place
on the map, and those found with
out a license will be of short dura

is carried out. They will slay every

II. A. Kllno, n saloonkeeper on
Main street, has Blurted tho bees to
humming In great shapo with his
communication to tho council. At
Iho meeting n week ago ho nsked
why It was that tho druggists did
not pay a liquor license when they
sold wines and liquors to tliolr cus
tomers. and the question was refer
red to thu llceiiBo committee, which
has been trying to find an answer
during tho week. Tho matter would
hnvo been brought up last night had
tho council mot, nnd will bo nt tho
next meeting.
It has been decided by tho com
mittee that tho druggists will ho
asked to cither quit selling by tho
glass or tnko out a regular llccnso,
ns tho Biiloons uro required to do.
Some of tho druggists oppose this
ruling and say that it thoy aro re
quired to take out n llccnso thoy
will put In big stocks of liquors nnd
do a regular retail business. What
end will ho reached Is not known,
for It would hardly bo n paying prop
osition for tho drug stores to pay
tho required license, nnd on the
other hand It would bo a hard thing
to catch them violating tho law In
a smnll city whoro ovoryono Is
known to them. Tho council will
take Bomo action at the next meet
