Pendleton, Ore. AMONG THE EXCHANGES OF THE INLAND EMPIRE Killed an Albino Deer. An albino deer, with a coat as white as the drifting snows, eyes a tlollcate pink and a tread as soft and discreet as an elk Tawn, was killed In the Canyon mountains of South ern Oregon recently. It waB one of tho very few albino deer ever seen In the mountains or the West. Old hunters tell of seeing them, usually separated from the main herds at various times during tho early days, but they were too shy and discreet to ho approached near enough for a shot. Tho deer was with four other deer at the time It was found, and had this not been true the hunters would not havo taken It for a deer. Its white coat made It far moro con spicuous than the remainder of tho herd and It 1b perhaps for this rea son only albino deer are sITunned by their mates. The albino deer bears ixactly the same relation to tho deer family as the albino of tho African race does to human kind. Aside from Its white coat and pink eyes, It Is like all other deer; possibly Its hair !s softer and more silky. The specimen found In the pine forests of the Canyon mountains will be made a part of the exhibit of the alblmammals at tho Smithson ian Institute. Raker City Herald. New Walla Walla Theater. If the plans that are now undor consideration are carried out Walla Walla will have another opera house In the near future. Several theatri cal people of Portland have recently been making Investigations In this city and In other places In Eastern Oregon and Washington along this line. It Is said that they are nnx lous to establish houses at Pendle ton, Baker City and Walla Walla and put them on an eastern circuit to connect with San Francisco, Port land, Seattle and Tacoma theaters. The plans which have been In consideration wilt call for a theater on the ground floor, and to be con structed so that it will provide num erous exits in case of fires or any other trouble. If the house is erected it will be constructed after tho stylo of all tho finest theaters In the East and will be furnished with the best material obtainable, Walla Walla Statesman. Buying Hogs Under Difficulties. W. n. Kurtz, who has returned from a two weeks' trip Into Uaho, whither he went to purchase hogs for the market, "says that when ho stepped oft the train at St. Anthony, 25 miles from Yellowstone Park, he struck 20 Inches of snow and tho thermometer at 16 below zero. Hav ing almost exhausted the local mar ket, Mr. Kurtz resorted to Idaho and there bought from six to eight cars of hogs, bringing two cars wlht him, one of which he shipped to Portland, while he Is feeding 200 head bote. Tomorrow he will leave for Grass Valley. Fat hogs in the local market, ho says, are bringing five cents and good feeders from four to four and a halt cents. The Dalles Chronicle. Barbers Raise Prices. Some changes were made In tho rates to be charged by union barbers last night, In accordance with the report brought In by the committee Arthur Bogle, Newton Nicholson and B. Milnes, and henceforth those who shave the checks but allow tho beard to grow on the chin will be required to pay 40 cents when they wish to lmve both shave and trim, sayt th Walla Walla Union. Bay rum on the hair will be charged at five cents. Tho price for a mas sage was raised from 25 to 35 cents. It was decided also to close the shops entirely on labor day and July 4, On other holidays shops will close at noon. Shops will be open until 10 p. m Saturdays and the days preceding labor day and July 4. MARKET ID WAR CAUSES CHICAGO WHEAT TO JUMP UP.
