Mr. J. S. Overfield airived In the city yesterday from Giangevllle and will spend several days in the city. Mr. Overfield, who Is a brother of George Overfield, one of the orlgl nal owners of the Jumbo mine, has spent several months in the Hump district and has made a thorough In vestigation of conditions there. Mr. Overfield believes the camp has a great future and deplores the fact that the roads are such a severe handicap. "At this time the secur ing of better roads," he said, "Is the Important question. It Is surely a discouragement to the prospective Investor, especially from the East, when he meets such conditions in entering the district. The mining country is now ccmlng substantially to the front and should receive the All's Well In Baker City. The shipment of ore and concen trates from the mines this month aggregated 33 cars, the largest month s business on record. A num ber of new people have settled hero In tho city and valley during tho winter; the winter has been a mild one; stock has come through in good shape and fodder Is plenty.
