an politicians of Illinois, representing
every county of tno stnto ami every
faction of the party arc rounded up
In the canltnl today for tliclr bleu
nlal love feaat. The excuse for ;ho
gathering is tho meeting of the state
committee to fix tno time and place
for holding tho stnto convention. The
gathering affords an excellent oppor
tunlty for "drawing a line ' on tno sit
nation with regard to the gubernator
ial nomination and It Is this fact that
Is chlclly responsible for tho presence
of so many of tho party leaders.
Hy 10 o'clock this morning the I.e-
land Hotel corridor and other public
places wore nllvo with politicians
who made slates and discussed the
various gubernatorial candidates and
their alliances. Quietly hut persis
tently circulating among the throngs
of visitors and buttonholing each now
arrival were the active lieutenants of
the three leading aspirants for tho
gubernatorial nomination Ciiivernor
ntes, who aspires to head the ticket
again; Colonel Frank O. Lowden, rt
Chicago, who believes he has more
than an oven chance of becoming iho
standard hearer, and Congressman
Vespasian Warner, who has followed
the lead of his two rivals In making
a personal canvass of the stnto.
The powwow will probably bo rich
In interesting developments, but Just
what effect it will have on the several
booms can hardly be figured out t
present. More will bo known after
the speechmaking tonight. Senators
Cullom and Hopkins have been .n
vlted to speak and also the various
Illinois representatives In the house.
