Walla Walla Statesman. Patriotic Japs. The gang of Japanese laborers employed In laying a side track In tho Boise yards are preparing to leave for their natlvo land tho mo ment war is declared. The spokes man for tho party declares that ovcry man of them will take up arms against Russia. "Our country Is small," he said, "and we need oveiy soldier wo can get. A subject of his majesty the mikado who would hesi tate to take up arms at a time like this would bo regarded at homo as n coward, nnd wo are not cowards. We will pay our own way home. That much wo own to our country. Russia Is a powerful nation and Japan is nu merically weak when compared to her. Wo have right and Justice on our side, however, and feel sure wo shall triumph." Bolso Statesman. All Corporations Not Soulless. F. T. Sawdey, N. Miles, C. A. Rose brook, J. B. Kile, J. H. Buckley and Rather Drastic Policy. The Pomeroy independent de clares that It will not hereafter sup port for office any man who Is not a subscriber. It used to support men no matter whether or not they sub scribed for the paper, but, having arrived at the years of knowledge, tho policy so long pursued In tho past will be shelved. The Independent says that a man who Is not "big enough to subscribe for n paper from which ho expects support when he Is running for office Is altogether too small a being to ho trusted wit public positions." Comparing: Misfortunes. Though the number of divorces in Walla Walla county may at first glance seem high, this district is still far and away behind Umatilla, where. with about tho same population, 87 petitions were entered for divorce last year, as against 38 lu this coun ty. An examination of tho records reveals the fact that whoreas desor- tlon is the chief ground for actions entered here, abuso and drunkenness are the charges most Irequontly en tered In tho neighboring county.
