Sunday School In Police Court.
That tho Sunday-schools or Spo
kane aro woll attendftd Is well known
to everyone, but It Is not known that
services aro hold in places outside if
a t" '"r "hitrch. For tho past two
Sundays many llttlo tots have as
sembled in the city police court to
hold their Sunday school services.
Thpy are accompanied by a young
lady, who thinks it perfectly proper
to hold tho school In court. Tho llt
tlo ones, from 7 to 11 years old,
range themselves In tho seats before
tho ratline;, tho teacher stands on tho
other side, and tho llttlo minds know
nothing; of events that go on during
the other six days In tho week.
Judge Hlnkle was pleased when ho
heard that ho was having competi
tion, not in the way of shokels, but
In doing good for tho classes. If ".
could bo nrrangfd to hold Sunday
school without disturbing tho court,
perhaps the judge would havo less to
do In his judicial capacity. Spokane

War Will Raise Beef Prices.
It's an ill wind that blows good to
nobody, is an old saying, nnd, while
It Is distressing to see war in any
part of the world and between na

;t is a fact that if actual hostilities
begin between' Japan and Hussla, as
was reported to bo the caso yoster

Eastern Oregon will greatly benefit
by the war. Those who have studd-i

additional fact that tho United States
will havo a hand in the fracas and"
the Pacific coast soldiers and militia
will be the first ones called upon for
Bervico. This past fall tho stockmen
of Eastern Oregon were unable to
sell their stock at what they consid
ered fair prices and most of them de
cided to hold over and feed during
tho winter. The" winter has so far,
very fortunately, been a mild one,
and if should there now be war tho3o
