has worked a great hardship upon tho
stock raisers of this part of Oregon.
The coyotes have already increased
pcrecptib.ly and are becoming very
bold. I noticed the other day H7 ot
them in one field, and they have kill
ed 19 pigs and Innumerable chickens
that I know of upon one ranch alone,
it something is not done, these pests
will soon overrun tho whole country.
In the opinion of myself and other
stockmen the repeal of'the bounty act
was a mistake.

Apples Frozen In the Orchard.
Over 2,000 bushels ot apples were
frozen at the big orchard of D. n.
Hinehart, the owner being unable to
gather and store them in his cellar

vember. A larger number of teams
camo in from Harney county after

than came during previous years.
Owing to a shortage of fruit else
where, the most of these teams came
to Mr, TUnehart for fruit. To load
them as promptly as they desired, It
took most of his employes off from tlw
work of gathering and storing t
fruit in the cellars, hence when the
freezing weather ot November came,
fully 2,000 busheU of choice apples
had not been gathered in. Mr. Rlne
hart had a very large crop of fruit
during the past seabon, and as it ivas
gathered and cared for between C.000
to 8,000 busnels of apples. He has
the largest orehaid in the county and
when an ordinary crop is grown he
could supply with fruit almost half ot

immediately made his way to tho

$400, but Chung showed his Oriental

Columbia county barley Is. rapidly
