GOOD SHOES CHEAP WHO WILL RECEIVE AN ELEMENT OF DOUBT AS TO NEW YEAR CALLS Transportation for Alt Is Not .Assur. ed and Some of the Ladles Are Balking, Preferring to Observe Leap Year by Some Other Methods List of the Gentlemen Who Will Receive Is Qiven Below. Now that the dance is out of the way, the attention of the society peo ple ot the city is turning towards the open houses of New Year's night. It oven yet seems to he a matter of iloubt ns to whether or not the ladles will stay at home or make the rounds of the city, as wished by the gentle men. It is urced by many of them, and by some of the gentlemen, that there are not sufficient transporta tion facilities In the city to accommo date all of the ladies who would wish to malic the calls, and that the wea ther Is too cold and disagreeable for them to make the journey on foot; and for this reason many of the la dles have almost decided that they will remain at home and allow the celebration of the day to pass unno ticed. All of the ladies of this mind wish to entertain In the regular way and observe the leap year at some othew time and in some different manner, but it is thought by the promoters of the leap year ooservances that their objections can be overcome and that transportation can he provided for all. Thero are four cabs In the city, which will make room for Ifi of the ladies, and It Is thougnt that the ho tel 'busses and the carryalls from tho two academies can he pressed Into service, besides the surreys and other larger conveyances of the city.
