It Is not often that the average wealthy wheat raiser of the Walla Walla valley Is taken for a tramp, but such was the caso Thursday. One of the pioneers of Walla Walla, worth about $250,000, was taking a morning walk for his health when a woman hailed him from the porch of her house, asking him If ho wanted work. The vicissitudes of fortune to which the pioneer has been subjected nro sometimes not conducive to much re gard for personal appearance as far as dress is concerned, and the woman thought sho had a chance to give a "tramp" something to do, "Do you want work?" she demand ed. "If you do go around to the wood shed and split some wood for me. I'm all out and nearly froze." The pioneer stopped and eyed the women sternly for a moment. His hesitation puzzled her and sho repeated tho question. The "tramp" then understood tho situation and, with tho remark that he was not in the wood business, ho moved on, dimlv wondering.
