There will bo objections to the for-! matton of tho I.lttlo Walla Walla Ir rigation district on December 21, but If the Interest of all the people and , all the land area In the proposed dls-i trlct Is rightly considered, thoru should not be. The dlfforent phases of Irrigation must bo organized and systematized in Oregon, before the fullest returns can rome fiom it. The critics of 'the Pendleton high school heating plant are wrong in saying that it does not heat tho rooms. "There is always some fire where there Is ko much smoke." Spokane cites the prosperity of the Pendleton Woolen Mill as an Induce ment to Spokane capital to build one there. Spokane could not Imitate a tietter institution. Several enthusiastic meetings have been held in Iji Orande lately for tho purpose of agitating the search for artesian water in Grand Ronde valley. Tnero is uvorythlng else in Oram! A farmers' institute should be held ii Pendleton somo time this winter, There aro several important subjects that would properly como before such a meetlug. A farmer's wheat pool re embllng tho wool pool would bo a live themo for discussion. Umatilla ounty needs a creamery and a coun ty fair organization. It leaves but three hours and fif teen minutes between the arrival and departure of tho branch train, brings the train in too late lor the patrons to reach the banks, beforo closing, and makes it impossible for people to reach nil the errands which bring f them to tho county seat; Under tho old .schedule, this train was highly appreciated by the resi dents of Adams, Athena, Weston, Milton and Freowater, as It enabled them to como to Pendleton early in the afternoon, attend to all the busi ness coming from those busy ,polnts to tho, county scat and return on tho same evening. In good season. Fully one-half of this travel will be prevented by the new schedule, which will d.lve people to the use of teams. In coming to Pendleton, by which they can come and go at will, and save tho expense of remaining over night away from home. The business u.cu of Pendleton and the residents of tho busy county towns along tho branch road are Join ing In n petition to the officials, ask ing them to reinstate the old time of arrival for this train, at I o'clock In tho afternoon, In order lo 'accommo date Its great niimhei or patrons, who are practically barred from patroniz ing tins train on account of the short time It remains in this city, and especially on account of tho late hour at which It arrives. The train is always more or less late, on account of the lurge amount ui work done by tho crew along the line, and by this delay the time In which people arriving on it are al lowed in which to transact business Is still further reduced. The officials will be made a ware I scope and just enough in Its provis ions to meet all the needs of tho gov ernment nnd of the homesteader. It represents 20 years of patient labor of tho master minds of the West, and should be satisfactory to tho people of the West. The arid land will pay for Itsclr, and nil that is needed from the government is a little more speed In executing the provisions of the law.
