Company Losing Money and Want to
Raise Prices.
Illnckfoot, Idalio, Nov. 2I.Sui-pi-tary
of State Ollison, State Knislneor
Darlington and Messrs. Skcens and
Sweet of the American Palls Canal
and Power company, are ongaiwd In
Inspecting the big tract of land segre
gated under the Caiey act and sought
to be reclaimed by tho ditch of the
American Palls company on tho west
side of Snake river. Tho latter
company claims that the canal has
already cost $350,000 and that the
total will bo over $700,000.
t As not over 40,000 acres of tho en
tire tract can be sold, tho proposition
at tne precent price of $15 an aero Is
a losing one and they ask the state
for permission to raise tho price to
$20 and $25 per acre.
As most of this land is being sold
to settlers of other states tho peoplo
of Idaho have but llttlo Interest in
the proposed raise, ..roiigh this
part of the state considerable Inter
est has been manifested and thero is
a strong desire to seo tho proposition
carried to a speedy fruition. A re
fusal of tho stato board to grant the
company's request may causo anoth
