Calvin Ogle, nt Huron, Wash., a nephew of B. F. Ogle, arrived here a few days ago and Is the guest 6f the Ogle home. In a day or so he Intends to take his departure, accom panied by his uncle, 13. F. Mrs. Alice Saling, widow of thu late J. K. Sating, died at the homo of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Shelton, on September 18, and was burled there. The funeral services wore conduct ed by Kev. W. M. Hobertson, of that place. Mrs. Sallng's maiden name was Alice Webb. She was born in Eng land, May 4, 1834, and came to Salt Lake City, where, In 1852, she was united in marriage with Vance bhai for. To this union four children were born, tbreev of them surviving her. as follows: Mrs. H. C. Garlltte, of Hay View, Wash., and Perry and Frank Shaffer, of Davisvllle, Cal. In J8G9 she was again married to J. K. .Saling. who died September 28, 1900 Four children by this carriage sur vive her. they being Gleu H. Saling mid Mrs. Gay Clark, of this city; Jessie Saling, of Pendleton, and ..irs. Frank Shelton. of Hear. Idaho. Mrs. Saling was a pioneer of this county and leaves a host of friends all over the county to mourn Jier loss. Death of John C, Luce. John P. Luce, one of tho pioneers of Grant county, and a prominent citizen, died at his homo near John Day. September 14. Mr. Luce came to Canyon City In 1802, and for a few years engaged In running a pack train between that place- and The Dalles. He ' then located land and built no a largo and well stocked farm. In the political field ho gain ed his widest distinction.
