Salem, Sept. 15. In view of the fact that tho loans from the school fund have exceeded the repayment of loans by $:;00,000 In the past vear. the state board is not worrying o"er the action of the Corvallls school board In selling ?S,000 4 per cent bonus to a local Investor. "We are lending money In Hentou county at 0 per cent Interest on ellt edge real estate security," lenrtrUed a member of the board today, "and if some Benton county man Vaiun t. take the bonds at 4 per cent i v hill not try to prevent him." The decrease in the surplus funds Indicates a radical change in busi ness. Up to a year ago Uie surplus was steadily Increasing. Hoitoaois from the bchool ttuid were n'nK'.ug money and paying off their Indebted ness. Since people have gotten out of debt the Investment fever has possessed them and they are now borrowing for the purpose of Inlying property. Legitimate Investments. Tli board makes inquiry concern ing the use that is to lie made of the boriowed money and learns that lu a largo proportion of cases the money is wanted for tho purpose of adding to a farm or enlarging the present Investment. "I'eople are coming here from the 1-ast and buy ing property," suld a member of the board, "and when Oregon people, see nowcomers buying, they tako the fe ver too and begin to buy. That ac counts largely for tbe fact that our loans have exceeded payments by about $300,000 lu tlie past year. The surplus Is now less than $000,000." The state land board Is not dispos ed to ask school districts to borrow from the stale at G per cent interest when they can borrow from private Individuals at I per cent. Tbo board does not think, however, Hint many loans can be made now at 4 per cent, as was done In Corvttllis, Money is more in demand than It was a year ago, and the rate of Interest Is rais ing. Whether 4 per cent bonds Issued without offering them to the state land board at 0 xir cent are valid Is a question tho board will leave for the district and the purchaser to sot tie for rim lirml-H will nnt nuk n illu. I trlct to pay 5 per cent if It can get money at I per cent. We sell the greatest of blood puri fiers, Acker's Blood Elixir, under a positive guarantee. It will cure all chronic and other blood poisons. If you have eruptions or sores on your body, or are pale, weak or run down, It Is Just what you need. Wo refund money If you are not satisfied.
