The club Jour nal of Portland, was adopted by the federation as Its official organ. The Journal starts out under now man agement this year, and the slate board and the standltiK committees will make use of Its columns to com mnnleate with the clubs. As soon as possible a lisi of the now officers and standing commit tees will bo published in the Journal, probably In the October number. The Journal should bo In the hands of everv club woman that wishes to keep posted on the club Interests ol the state. Of our local clubs the Current Lit erature Is lite first to meet. The first meeting was held on Wednesday afternoon of this week, nt the home of Mrs. W. J. Kurnish. The Thursday Afternoon Club year will begin September a I. meeting at the home nr Mrs. J. E. liean. The Woman's Club will not meet until the second Tuesday in October. Mr. Turner, of the Art Exhibit, has been 'corresponding with Mrs. Wams loy. the chairman of the committee here, regarding another exhibit in Pendleton. The matter will be brought before the clubs soon, and a vote taken on the proposition. Should the clubs undertake (mother exhibit there is uo doubt that the ! ilr.-i pnzc offered by Mr. Turner for I the best returns from January 1w:i, I in .January loi, would eomo here, as I'endlelon'B report was the best at the close of our exhibit. The prize is $;oit worth or pictures or easts, and would add greatly to the attractive ness of our school rooms. As new sehoolhouses are built, additional decorations of the first-class will be needed. The committee atwlnted by the Woman's Club to provide prises tor the Aster Show, to be givan by the school children, Is wondering when the "show" is to come off. There are many, beantirul asters In evidence In all parts or the city. Humors of manual training in the schools this year are interesting to club women, ami 0 o'clock closing is looked upon by them sb a progres sive step. PemUeton club women have not "gone shopping" after ti o'clock' for some years, and they are glad to see the Pendleton merchants In line with those of other cities. Rally closing is one of the things that makes "Pendleton a better place to live in." .Mrs. N. M. Perkins, of Holse. oae of the charter members of the Thurs day Afternoon Club, ami at one time a piominent' leader in the musical clubs 01 Pendleton, is a guest at Lo cust Hill.
