R. & N., are in the city on business connected with the assessment of the company. Chris Ranley has returned from Lehman Springs, where he has been for several weeks In attendance up on Mrs. Ranley, who has been seri ously 111. Misses Bessie and Daisy McPher son left this morning for their home at Rocktort, Wash., after a Bummer's visit with their aunt, Mrs. H. V. Hil ton, of this city. Mrs. Fred Walte, accompanied by her mother, Mrs, Woodward, left this morning for Colfax, where they will be tho guests of the parents of Mr. Walte for a time. George Grout, a prominent labor loader of La Grande, left for .home this morning, after spending several days In the city, visiting with the family of J. J, Stubblefleld. John McLaughlin, of the O. R. & N., returned last night from Portland, accompanied by Mrs. McLaughlin, who has been the guest of friends In that city for the last month. Dr. and Mrs. D. J. McFaul left this morning for Spokane and Sound cities for a visit of a week or 10 days. It Is rumored that the doctor will return with an automobile. REGISTRY ROLLS OPEN. List of Officers to Be Filled at Com ing City Election. The rolls for the iegistrallon of the voters at the coming municipal elec tion opened today at the office of tho city recorder. At this election It will be necessary to provido for live councllmen to tako tho places of Messrs, Clopton, of the first ward, Hartmau of the second, Swltzler, of the third, and Scwell and Howard, of the fourth. A mayor Is also to be elected, as Is a water commissioner to succeed William Jones, whose term expires at that time. There are five water commis sioners, on the board, and one Is olocted every two years for a term of 10 years. The qualifications for the office are that they be residents of tho city for at least Ave years prior to the time of their election, and bn owners of property to tho value of at least &2.G00. The rolls for the registry of tho voters will be open for the next days, In the office of the city record er. He Is In Demand. William Lyons, who has been at Hollx In tho W. & C, It. office there for some time, Is In the city for a short visit with bis friends and lela tlves.
