Within n half day's ride of this place are nt least 500 head of choice beef steers, be longing to different settlors, who are waiting the coming of buyers Into this district. Already this season, Uklnh, Alba and Camas Prairie have furnished over 1,000 head of fat steers to the Portland and Sound markets, nnd probably that many moro will be driven out yet this fall. Tho range has been exceptionally good this year and the stock has all been In lino condition. The wild hay crop In tho Alba and Uklah country was light, In some places, but tho grain hay crops aro heavy enough to make the total ton nage about tho samo, nnd tho num ber of stock held over will be about the samo as usual. The Oregon State Mining Association was organ ized In this city, yesterday evening, nt tho rooms of tho Chamber of Com merce. For tho past two montlm tho matter has been agitated through, out Oregon, and the only tmng that worked against the meeting was the fact that It was called to tako place, while tho International Mining Con gress was In session nt Denilwood, S. D. Many of the prominent mining men of tho state nro present at tho Dead wood meeting, which reduced tho at tendance nt this state meeting. One noticeable fenturo of the meeting was the very weak attendance from Eastern Oregon, tho lending mining district of tho state. Tho following officers wore elected for tho. ensuing year: J. F. Wlcklmm, or Galico, presi dent. .1. H. Flsli, of Portland, vice-president. L. Kulsure, of Baker City, second vice-president. A. 1,, Morris", of Portland, secre tary. J. F.
