MINING CONGRESS FIRST SESSION NEXT MONDAY AT DEADWOOD, All the Mineral Producing Regions of the United States Will Be Repre sented Proposition to Have the In dustry Represented In the Cablne A Portland Man Is on the Execu tive Committee. Deailwood, S. D., Sept, 5. Delegates nro Already arriving In largo num bers for tho mooting ot tlio American Mining Congress, which is to begin Its sessions lioro next Monday and continue through the week. Indica tions point to a largo attondancc from Colorado, California. Aritonn, Alabama, Tennessee, Illinois, Missou ri, Iowa, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Montaua, Idaho and num erous other slates. Judging from tho preparations matlo and the largo num ber of oarly arrivals tho fcss'.oii will bo a memorable one. It Is tho first time that tho congress has bee-i hon ored by the official recognition of tho president of tho United Stites. who is to bo represented by I-cslio XI. Shaw, secretary of tho treasury, Tho session is to last six t'nys. and tho delegates and their friend?, also, will enjoy several outings that have been arranged for them. Tho speak ers Includo such men as Dr. J. D. Hol mes, E. W. Parker and Qeorgo R. Roberts, of Washington. D. C; Frank lin II. Cnrpenter, of Denver, and Rep resentative C. IS. Van Duzer, of Ne vada. Mr, Shaw will speak on "Tho Mining Industry and Its Relation to American Finances." Henco tnero is no doubt that tho technical part ot the program will bo Interesting. Just what particular question 'will engage the uppermost nttentlon ot the con gress at this session will 'lot be known until tho congress convenes. It is very probable, however, that tho all-absorbing topic will have to do with, securing for the mining Industry ot the United States repre sentation in tho cabinet ot tho presi dent. Tuo fact that Secretary Shaw will attend tho congress will no doubt accentuate, tho discussion of this question, which for tho past year has been agitated by members of tho con gress above nil other matters. Whether tho extra-lateral right issuo -will be taken up again as It was at Butte last year remains to no seen. The coming session will mark mo sixth annual meeting of this organiz ation. Tho congress has been in ex istence nearly 10 years, though at Its beginning meetings were held nt Ir regular Intervals. Last year tne con vention was held at Butto, and It was voted a big success by all who at tended. This was due in a measure to tho fact that tho bosslon was held at a real live mining camp, which added considerable Interest to tho deliberations of tho body. The officers or the congress who were elected last year are: President, J. H. Richards, IJoiso, Idaho; first vice-president, S. Russell, Deailwood, S. D.; second vice-president, K. R. Iluckley, Rolla, Mo.; third vice-president. Thomas Ewlng. Los Angeles. These, with Irwin Mahon, secretary, of Carlisle, Pa., Charles W. Coodale, of Hutte, Colonel John T.
