NEW ALASKAN RAILROAD.
Four Hundred Elghty-Flve Miles, All

Seattle. Sept. 3. It Is learned on
excellent authority that the promot
ors of the new Vahlez, Copper Illver
& Tanann railroad have for their
primary object the construction of an
nIlAmerlcan through line Into the
1 Klondike. The intention rs to build
j a railroad from Valdrz, on I'r'Pf
! William Sound, to Hagle City on the
Yukon river, a distance of 4"0 miles,
in addition tp a spur of B5 miles down
1 the Teiiana river to reach the placer

handle both passengers and freight
Construction has been in progress
miw for some time and it Is hoped t
finish the work during the coming
summer.
With the advent of the railroad and
the knowledge that it will be speedi
ly built Into the copper district, and
tne fact that the route is 500 miles
shorter than any other In the Tanann
, diggings. It is believed that lutending
onpror operators will send In men
and supplies to begin development
preliminary to oxtenslvo operations
on the completion of the road.
